When do I need a roof?

A lot of people question when is my roof in danger of failure? There are many reasons you could be in need of a new Roof By Competitive Edge!  one of the most practical ways for you to tell are just by you looking at it! Most roofs typically have asphalt shingles installed on them currently if they haven’t been re-done in the past 20 years or so.

One common problem with these that makes them not last as long is poor attic ventilation some common ways to tell that this may be your problem is blistering/and or/peeling of interior or exterior paints, exterior decay of sheathing and/or siding, stains on interior cielings and/or walls, Excessive energy costs is one more way to tell. In warm weather, inadequate ventilation will trap hot air in the attic, causing air conditioning systems to work harder, or leaving your home’s interior hotter and less comfortable.  In both hot and cold weather, insufficient attic ventilation may cause moisture in the attic to become trapped and condense on the rafters. This condensed moisture can drip down onto the insulation and reduce its effectiveness. Excessive energy costs can result.

One consequence of poor ventilation is he heat just builds up in there and bakes your shingles causing a shortened life on them. Most asphalt shingles range from your standard 25 year 3 tab shingle, to your 30 year dimensional shingle. A lot of times we see shingles covering the ridge up under the ridge vent at the top of your roof, we also see a lot that have no vent period. Another advantage of a new roof by Competitive Edge is that our metal roofing vents at the bottom and the top of your roof for maximum ventilation!, and we always make sure we cut the wood back at the top so your roof can ventilate properly through the metal ridge vent and the ribs in the metal itself!

Another way to tell visually is to look and see if you have Dark dirty or dingy looking areas on your roof. This could be caused due to loss of granules which comes from the age of the shingles.

You can also go in your attic and see if anything is wet, Some common causes are inadequate shingle underlayment, improper installation, and/or deteriorated flashing which should be replaced as soon as possible to avoid further problems, leaving this unattended will end up costing you more in the long run!

Another instance you probably need a new roof is if you have multiple leaks or rotten spots on your roof, some leaks can be patched or caulked and fixed for the moment but youll probably end up having problems again in the future. We can fix anything that may be rotten on your roof for minimal cost. Leaks are also bad because if the rain gets in it can ruin your ceilings and walls and your structural integrity period!

A lot of homeowners are replacing their roofs now to become more modern or visually appealing. Many different colors are offered in the metal now and you can have the color you want that suits you and your home! It is also an excellent tax writeoff and comes with a 40 year warranty and our guarantee!
